The district of Todtnau-Herrenschwand was assigned to the parish of Todtmoos in 1787. The present chapel was built in the 1890s and consecrated in 1898. In 1929, Eugenio Pacelli visited the chapel before being appointed Cardinal that same year. He was finally elected Pope Pius XII in 1939.
