Church of Geschwend
In the centre of Geschwend, the church tower of the St Wendelin branch church rises high into the sky, dominating the townscape.
After the old St Wendelin’s Chapel in Geschwend burnt down in 1895, it was decided to build a larger church. The Geschwend-Präg branch parish had already been established in 1901, and the new church was now intended to serve both parishes. That is why the two patron saints chosen were St Wendelin, the former patron of the chapel in Geschwend, and St Gallus, the former patron saint of Präg. On 8 September 1908, Auxiliary Bishop Dr Knecht consecrated the new church. The church was built in the Neo-Romanesque style. The rectangular building has a recessed chancel, adjoined by a considerably lower semicircular apse. On both sides of the nave there are five tall windows topped with round arches, and there is an exit on each side. The nave and chancel have gable roofs of different heights. On the west side, the four-storey tower rises above the main portal. It is topped by a stepped pyramidal roof and crowned with a weathercock.
