The GUCKLOCH cinema in Furtwangen was founded in 1985 after the "Friedrichsbau-Lichtspiele" closed. As the 2nd venue of the municipal cinema Guckloch in VS-Villingen, we presented films. We have been an independent organisation since 2000. We are a member of the Federal Association of Municipal Cinemas with 160 members in Germany. Our aim is to cultivate the wide range of feature films, short films, documentaries and experimental films in equal measure and to make the medium of film accessible to the public, beyond commercial constraints. In order to do justice to the complex medium of film, we organise talks with directors, live musical accompaniment to silent films and original versions. Local cinemas take on the task of media education, as film is not taught as a subject in schools.
We do:
- around 60 to 70 film screenings per year for over 1700 viewers. And not only in the new venue in the Postkraftwagenhof Grieshaberstraße19, but also at the Protestant community festival, at the Neukirch village hock, in the old people's home, at the Maria Goretti kindergarten overnight party, as part of the town's summer holiday programme, at World Children's Day, at the Bregtal School summer festival.......
We want to:
- Promote cinema work, give films a chance that otherwise have no forum
- Work with other associations/organisations/institutions to supplement events and exhibitions with accompanying films in order to form a local cultural network
- Also show films by local producers, filmmakers and up-and-coming directors
- include various film genres, from documentaries and short films to films from all over the world, historians and classics from over 100 years of film and cinema history.
- Encourage children to engage with film content with non-violent films and hands-on activities (painting and craft activities, tree planting, goal wall shooting, falconry demonstrations...)
- Develop and implement new ideas, such as women's films for International Women's Day,
- find new employees with fresh ideas to strengthen our team
- give new impetus to cinema work with the new venue in the former Postkraftwagenhof in a cinema-friendly atmosphere.
