Mill museum in Boll
The museum can be visited during the specified opening hours without prior appointment. Mr Meinrad Götz is on site and will be happy to tell you about the history of the Boller Mühle.
Special guided tours outside these times are available by telephone arrangement.
For centuries, there have been numerous mills along the streams of the Black Forest. They were an important link between the farmer and the baker and therefore vital for the "daily bread".
In Bonndorf-Boll, on the edge of the Wutach gorge, there were originally as many as five mills.
The "Obere Beimühle" mill, which dates back to the 16th century, has been preserved to this day and was still grinding until 1970 under Friedrich Hugel, the third generation of the family to do so.
His predecessors, Rudolf Hugel and Friedrich Hugel, converted the mill into an artificial mill after they took over the mill from Johann Baptist Keller in 1880.
The mill was powered by an overshot water wheel from the mill pond, which was fed by the village stream. Although the water supply is interrupted today, the mill, which is still fully preserved, can still be seen in operation today with its many machines and transmissions, the grain cleaning system, the grinder, elevators and a goods lift.
