The idyllic Schlüchtsee near Grafenhausen lies at an altitude of 900 metres in the nature reserve between Grafenhausen and Rothaus. This natural lake is perfect for swimming in summer and for relaxing all year round.
Nestled amidst the natural beauty of the Black Forest Highlands, Lake Schlüchtsee lies between Grafenhausen and Rothaus. Surrounded by woodland, blooming water lilies and the protected landscape of a nature reserve, this idyllic lake is the perfect spot for swimming and relaxation. The lake, which covers an area of around six hectares, is fed by the River Schlücht and is thought to have once served as a fish pond and possibly also as an ice pond for the nearby Rothaus Brewery, which was founded in 1791 by St Blasien Abbey.
Relaxation and swimming fun in the heart of nature
Surrounded by dense high forest, Schlüchtsee offers a particularly peaceful and natural atmosphere. The spacious sunbathing lawn with its gently sloping banks makes the lake a popular destination for families. Children can splash about and swim here, whilst adults enjoy the magnificent landscape and the relaxed atmosphere.
A third of the lake is covered in water lilies and serves as a valuable habitat for flora and fauna. This area is therefore closed to swimmers.
Kiosk, sunbathing lawn and sun terrace
Directly above the sunbathing lawn is a kiosk with a sun terrace, changing rooms and toilet facilities. It is open daily in good weather. There is also a 24-hour drinks and snack vending machine available. Boats are not permitted on Lake Schlüchtsee, ensuring that the peaceful atmosphere is preserved.
Well worth a visit at any time of year
Lake Schlüchtsee is a delight not just in summer. In winter, the surrounding area is transformed into a picturesque snowy landscape. Reflections on the water or a smooth sheet of ice make the lake an attractive destination for walks or winter hikes.
Schlüchtsee is easily accessible
