01.) looks after a network of trails totalling 24,000 km. It maintains and marks these hiking trails.
We are still looking for volunteers to help us keep the trail system
in Breitnau and Hinterzarten up to scratch.
If you are interested, please contact Marina Fuss on 07652/5738 or marinafuss@aol.com
02.) maintains 26 hikers' hostels with affordable accommodation.
03.) takes care of the preservation and maintenance of countless biotopes and the acquisition of areas worthy of protection.
We patrol numerous nature reserves, for example on the Feldberg,
at Schluchsee and in the Wutach Gorge.
In Hinterzarten, we take special care of the toads during the toad migration period
as well as native bird species, for which we provide nesting boxes etc. that need to be looked after.
In particular, we mow various sloping meadows that cannot be worked on by motorised vehicles.
We also combat imported plants such as giant hogweed and Japanese knotweed,
as these threaten to eradicate the native plants.
In some areas of the Wutach in particular, we have been able to preserve the original native flora, which is protected,
native flora and fauna, which are protected,
but have to fight Japanese knotweed and giant hogweed every year.
For more information, please contact Holger Jäckle Tel: 07652/2399896
