Snow sports have a long tradition in the Black Forest. The first Norwegian skis arrived in Menzenschwand as early as 1891 and as early as 1896 you could read in a travel guide for our village: "Beautifully crafted snowshoes at cheap prices". The ski bindings were made by the local saddler. But just as a ski club was about to be founded, the First World War broke out and it was not until 25 January 1923 that the time had come.
