3 facts about Eisenbach
The world's first ski lift: the inventive spirit of the Black Forest Highlands people is legendary. The world's first ski lift was built in Schollach, the smallest district of Eisenbach, on 14 February 1908. Robert Winterhalder, landlord of the "Schneckenhof", developed the lift, which used hydropower to transport winter sports enthusiasts up the mountain.
Alpine panorama : Anyone travelling up the "Höchst" in Eisenbach, on foot or by bike in summer or on cross-country skis in winter, can enjoy one of the most beautiful Alpine panoramas in the Black Forest.
Watchmaking village: Industry is flourishing in Eisenbach, with globally active precision engineering companies based here. No wonder, because even in the 19th century there were more watchmakers and precision mechanics in Eisenbach than in any other Black Forest town. The annual event highlight is the International Antique Watch Fair.
Eisenbach and its 3 districts
Bubenbach: Situated in a side valley, the village originates from a former glassblowing settlement. You can discover particularly beautiful Black Forest houses in this climatic health resort.
Oberbränd: Charcoal burners were once at work here, and by clearing the forests they uncovered a distant view that is a constant source of enchantment on the walking trails and cross-country ski circuits.
Schollach: All that remains of what was once the world's first ski lift is the mill that powered it. However, you can still stop off at the Gasthaus Schneckenhof and spend the night in a historic ambience, just as the spa guests once did.
