First clock factory: Founded in 1851, the clock factory was the first of its kind in the Black Forest, producing large quantities of high-quality timepieces with modern clock cases. It flourished and became the most important company in this sector until it closed its doors in 1927. Around 250 exhibits from the heyday of the Lenzkirch watch factory are now on display in the Kurhaus.
Making Lenzkircherles: When someone sits alone at a table, they are said to be making Lenzkircherles. This has a historical background: when the Lenzkirch clockmakers returned from a journey to sell their timepieces, they had a lot of money with them, which first had to be counted in peace. The best place to do this was in a secluded corner of the pub.
Ursee valley shrouded in legend: One legend describes the "immeasurable depth" of the Ursee and the subterranean connection with Lake Titisee: A farmer was once ploughing a meadow by the lake with a team of oxen. When the oxen did not obey, he cursed and wished that the devil would take them. The oxen and their team then ran straight into the lake and drowned. The team remained missing until a few years later, when a yoke of wood washed up on Lake Titisee.
Lenzkirch and its four villages
Saig: The climatic health resort at around 1,000 metres above sea level is easy to explore on foot. The Hochfirst is an easily accessible vantage point with a mountain inn, observation tower and views of Lake Titisee. Families can explore the Kuhle(h)rpfad in Saig with play stations and interesting facts about farming in the Black Forest Highlands.
Kappel: The climatic health resort offers an exciting hiking experience with the Viaduct and Gorge Trail, but the element of water is not neglected here either in the historic outdoor pool. The flagship for families is the adventure golf park with neighbouring playground.
Raitenbuch: A narrow road leads up to the romantic hamlet. On the slopes between the farms, shepherd boys once herded the cattle, which is the theme of the "Shepherd's Trail" premium hiking trail. Once you have passed Raitenbuch, you reach the beautiful Windgfällweiher pond with its historic lido and SUP station.
Grünwald: The smallest district of Lenzkirch is sunny and naturally "green". The highlight of the district is the monastery church of St Magdalena with a late Gothic sandstone relief.
