Town "Breitnau"
The climatic health resort of Breitnau is located on a plateau to the east of Freiburg at an altitude of 1,000 metres. Picturesque farms draw the eye, and in winter the historic Ravenna Viaduct is the backdrop for the popular The Ravenna Gorge Christmas Market.

3 facts about Breitnau
Old vicarage: The farm dating back to 1665 has been restored by volunteers and now houses the Breitnau library and is the venue for the annual cabaret festival organised by cabaret artist Martin Wangler in October and the Breitnau farmers' stage.
Heavenly Höllental: If you want to visit the Black Forest Highlands, you can hardly avoid the Höllental. The narrow connecting road to Freiburg has been famous for centuries. Among other things because of the legendary Hirschsprung, the former Hofgut Sternen post station where Goethe spent the night and the picturesque Ravenna viaduct with the gorge below.
The oldest church in the southern Black Forest: St Oswald's Chapel lies inconspicuously close to Hofgut Sternen. It was consecrated by the Bishop of Constance in 1148, making it the oldest church in the southern Black Forest. The ossuary, in which human bones are piled up, is impressive, but the three bells are also of particular value and date back to the 16th century.
