3 facts about Ühlingen-Birkendorf
Unique wildlife: Two extraordinary animal species feel particularly at home on the slopes of the Schwarza, Schlücht, Mettma and Steina rivers: the extremely rare asp viper, which finds a suitable habitat in the warm and sparse forests with scree slopes, and the chamois, which also call the steep rocky slopes their home.
Black Forest primeval forest: You can hike through a real primeval forest on the Rappenfelsensteig premium hiking trail. Little has changed in the Schwarzahalden preserved forest for centuries. The steep slopes, deep gorges and scenic views make the tour a little adventure.

Add to that the view of the Swiss Alps, which almost makes you feel like you're in the middle of the Alps when doing winter sports on the cross-country ski trail or at the ski lift.
Berau: The rocks in the climbing area above the Schlüchttal valley are up to 60 metres high. At Schwedenfelsen and Falkenstein you will find numerous routes of a maximum of three pitches in the lower and medium difficulty levels.
Untermettingen: A total of 13 clubs are active in the village, which only has around 750 inhabitants. The lively club life ensures that the village's events calendar is always well filled.
Obermettingen: An oasis of peace for all generations is the water trekking area with a wonderful view and adventure playground in Obermettingen. Here you can spend a relaxing summer afternoon.
Riedern am Wald: The former Augustinian monastery in Riedern am Wald is home to the Provost's Museum with a collection of old writings and sacred artefacts. An open-air theatre is also held here every two years, in which numerous locals take on the leading roles.
Hürrlingen: The smallest village in the municipality is particularly proud of one thing: the water treading pool! It was once built and maintained by the residents themselves. A festival is even organised here every year - the water treading pool festival.
