Between the gentle ridges of the Black Forest, a landscape unfolds around Bonndorf that seems quiet and is therefore so impressive. Especially between Ebnet and the Roggenbach valley, nature shows its original side: forests that smell of resin and moss, flowering meadows and small streams that flow quietly through the valley.
The Erlenbach Valley radiates an almost timeless tranquillity. Instead of spectacular highlights, it is the subtle impressions that have an effect here: the rippling of the water, the rustling of the leaves and the chirping of the birds. The landscape seems like a natural retreat where animals and plants can flourish largely undisturbed. Traces of beavers or storms and weather tell of change without disturbing the harmony.
The few farms and buildings also blend unobtrusively into their surroundings. The Welschhof, for example, lies quietly between meadows and forest edges and symbolises the stability of the region. Overall, this area lives less from major attractions than from its quiet, unspoilt atmosphere - a landscape that has a long-lasting effect precisely because of its tranquillity.

The trail begins on the western outskirts of Ebnet and initially leads you downhill along the Grafenhausener Weg towards Erlenbachtal. You soon immerse yourself in the tranquil world of the forest. One particularly beautiful spot invites you to linger: the idyllically situated Kreuzplatzhütte. Here you will find a fountain for refreshment, a barbecue area for a break and even the opportunity to refresh your feet in the cool stream.
The route continues down the valley along the water. Along the babbling brook, you hike through a small natural paradise that was shaped by beavers - today a refuge for birds and insects. With a bit of luck, you will hear nothing but the humming and chirping of nature.
You will pass historic places such as the former Dobelmühle mill and finally reach the former Roggenbach inn. (The Roggenbach hiking car park is on the opposite side of the road. From there you can take a detour to the Roggenbach castles. It is a 15-minute walk from the car park).
The circular route continues: the Welschweg begins behind the former inn. The ascent now becomes a little steeper, but the effort is worth it: once you reach the top, the landscape opens up and offers a view of the picturesquely situated Welschhof - a typical Black Forest farm nestled in meadows and forests.
Here you can enjoy the vastness and tranquillity of the region to the full. There are also quiet spots in the surrounding area, such as the Grimmelhütte, which offers shelter when the weather changes or simply invites you to take another break.
The way back finally takes you through a varied forest landscape back to Ebnet. Along the way, you will also get an impression of how the forest has changed - storm and bark beetle damage have left their mark, but nature is changing and in many places is already being rebuilt.
