Path condition
This varied circular walk around Ebnet combines tranquil forest paths, open countryside and teeming wildlife to create a particularly enchanting overall experience. Shortly after setting off, sweeping views across meadows and hills open up, before the path leads you into the peaceful, cool atmosphere of the forest.
In the valley around Roggenbach, the Black Forest reveals its unspoilt side: babbling water, unspoilt paths and a landscape that has retained its own rhythm. The view of the idyllically situated Welschhof highlights the special character of this region – defined by tradition, open spaces and tranquillity.
A worthwhile stop is the area around the former Roggenbach inn. From here, you can also explore the nearby Roggenbach castles – a piece of history nestled in nature.
As you climb back up, the perspective changes once more. Shady stretches of woodland, peaceful retreats and, with the Kreuzplatzhütte, a particularly lovely spot to linger await you. Water, wood and the surrounding natural landscape create an atmosphere here that invites you to take a deep breath.
Along the stream, you’ll see just how vibrant this landscape is: traces of beavers, diverse vegetation and the constant sound of the water make this section a little nature experience in its own right.
To round off the walk, the path leads back through Ebnet, past St Anna’s Chapel – a peaceful, atmospheric conclusion to a hike that harmoniously combines nature, history and relaxation.
Directions
The walk begins on the western outskirts of Ebnet and initially takes you downhill along the Welschweg as you leave the village. As you walk past meadows and the edges of the forest, beautiful views open up time and again, before the path gradually leads into the woods.
After a short stretch, you’ll reach narrower forest paths that wind gently downhill towards Roggenbach. Via quiet forest tracks and unspoilt sections, you’ll eventually reach the valley. The open countryside offers unobstructed views of the picturesque Welschhof – a typical Black Forest farmstead, nestled amongst meadows and woods.
A little further on, once you reach the former Roggenbach inn, the area is perfect for a short break. Opposite is a hikers’ car park, from which you can take a detour to the Roggenbach castles – a worthwhile destination for anyone wishing to add a little extra distance to their walk.
The return journey begins on the Harzerweg, which now leads you steadily uphill through the forest. The climb is somewhat more challenging, but is regularly broken up by gentler stretches. A particularly lovely rest spot awaits you at the Kreuzplatzhütte. With a fountain, barbecue area and direct access to the stream, it’s ideal for a relaxing break.
The Grafenhausenerweg then takes us back to Ebnet. You’ll walk along the stream on nature trails, past areas clearly shaped by the beavers’ activities and providing a habitat for numerous animal species.
The route takes us back to the hiking car park through the centre of Ebnet, past St Anna’s Chapel.
