Path condition
The walk to the Zweribach Waterfalls takes you through one of the most unspoilt parts of the Black Forest. From Potsdamer Platz, a car park for walkers near St Peter, the route leads into the preserved forest of Zweribach. This protected forest area, which has been allowed to develop without human intervention for decades, is teeming with mosses, ferns, ancient giant trees and fallen trunks, lending the route an almost mystical atmosphere.
You’ll hike down through the forest along narrow paths, past impressive viewpoints and wild streams. Eventually, you’ll reach the Zweribach Waterfalls, which plunge some 40 metres down into the valley in several cascades over granite rocks.
The return journey takes you along the Zweitälersteig, which leads you to the Plattenhof, where you can stop for a bite to eat. From the Plattenhof, you then follow the road straight back to Potsdamer Platz.
The route combines varied natural scenery, peaceful forest paths and spectacular waterfalls to create a special hiking experience in the Black Forest Highlands.
Directions
The hike starts at Potsdamer Platz in St. Peter. Relatively at the beginning of the car park, the Brückleweg leads into the forest, follow the path to the first crossroads and turn left into the Jockenweg. After about one kilometre, the path becomes Finstergrundweg. Follow this for around two kilometres.
The hill offers beautiful views of the Platte farms. Shortly afterwards, a narrow path branches off to the left into the Bannwald forest. A narrow forest path now leads you down to the Zweribach waterfall, zigzagging in places. The path leads you directly to the bridge over the waterfall. You can now either cross the bridge and follow the path directly, or you can walk down the path to the waterfall to see it in all its splendour.
After crossing the bridge, follow the Zweitälersteig trail (green diamond with red heart) up the mountain. The Zweitälersteig leads you to the Plattenhof, where you can stop for a bite to eat. From the Plattenhof, follow the road straight ahead back to Potsdamer Platz.
