Wegebeschaffenheit
This hike offers beautiful views and leads over the heights of St. Märgen, past the Kapfenkapelle chapel to Potsdamer Platz in St. Peter. When there is snow, it is particularly beautiful to walk through the white expanses and the snow-covered winter forest. In cloudy weather in the valley, you are usually on the sunny side of this winter hiking trail and can look forward to fantastic views over the sea of fog. Once you arrive in St. Peter, take the bus back to your starting point in St. Märgen. While you wait, you can stop off at one of the typical restaurants in the village or visit the St. Peter monastery with its unique rococo library.
Autorentipp
You can take a short break at the Kapfenkapelle chapel and admire the chapel and the beautiful view.
Depending on snow conditions and snow clearance, you can also make a short detour to the Vosges chapel at the end of the tour.
Wegbeschreibung
From the centre of the village, walk along the main road towards Hotel Hirschen and turn left at the Hirschen onto "Landfeldweg". Follow the road uphill towards Rankmühle and turn left after Rankmühle at the water treadmill. Now comes a somewhat steeper section. Follow the road along the edge of the forest until you come to a fork in the forest. Turn left again and follow the path through the forest. Continue straight ahead past the Kapfenkapelle chapel and you will reach the Red Cross. Turn left again and follow this path for about 750 metres (about 10 minutes) straight ahead through the forest. You come out of the forest at a crossroads where you turn right. Follow the road along the edge of the forest and then through the forest again. If the path has been cleared, you can make a short detour to the Vosges chapel. Otherwise, stay on the path and continue straight ahead until you reach your destination, Potsdamer Platz. Once there, take the bus to return to your starting point in St. Märgen. While you wait, you can stop off at one of the typical restaurants in the village or visit St Peter's Monastery with its unique rococo library.
